Introducing Te Mātā Tipuranga!

Kia ora, we are Te Mātā Tipuranga!

We are a Tau 2 - 4 bilingual class at Te Kura Rawhiti o Waitara.

In our class we speak and learn both Te Reo Māori and English.

We love to go on trips to the ngāhere, te tai, te awa, te mounga and learn outside the classroom about our taiao and our role as kaitiaki mo enā

We do some awesome learning in our class. We’re really proud of our manaaki, our awhi, and the learning we do.

We have shared a picture of a piece of work we are really proud of on our slide presentation. We would love to know what you think of them!

I roto i nga ngahere

I tēnei rā, ka haere mātou ko Te Kāhui o ngā Mātā Raukura ki te Ngahere o Manukorihi. I reira, i kimihia nga ngāngara me titiro i nga rākau o tāne.

This morning, we went to the Ngahere behind Manukorihi Park in search for bugs. We found so many fascinating critters there which has sparked our inquiry this term, based around Te Whenua.

These are some of the things the tamariki have noticed both around the Ngahere here at Manukorihi, but also in our kura whenua:
  • Grass & Mud - Bottom of the school
  • Rākau
  • Kōwhai
  • Pohutukawa
  • Harakeke
  • Bugs everywhere
  • Rubbish around the outside of the school
  • Noxious weeds

From our wonderings, we have decided upon some actions we can do to help whakapai te kura whenua:
  • Build a bug house for good bug / Ngāngara Hotels / Weta Whare
  • Pull out the noxious weeds
  • Trap the rats, mice, stoats, weasels, ferrets, possums
  • Pick up rubbish
  • Water the plants
  • Plant more flowers
  • Plant more rākau

If you or your whānau are experts in these areas, we would love your awhi in our kopa to help us with our learning. Otherwise, stay tuned on our class blogs to follow our adventures!
